Mr Burns

A post-electric play by Anne Washburn

Mr. Burns is a post-apocalyptic comedy – a crazy survival fantasy in three acts. In a world filled with chaos and suspicion, the TV-series The Simpsons saves humanity. A play about the tales told and developed into myths for future generations.

Modern society has collapsed and there’s no electricity. The population has taken to the forests, hunting for food and trying to escape radioactive particles. A group of survivors gathers around a campfire. They begin to recount a classic episode from The Simpsons, scene by scene. The lines become a mantra that spreads in wide circles, a song of comfort. Soon growing numbers of travelling theatre troupes pop up and tour the countryside with their interpretations of what happened when Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie had to abandon their home and flee from Sideshow Bob.

Dramatist Anne Washburn’s whacky mix of ominous catastrophe, black humor and music has been performed at theatres around the world since 2012. And now at last Mr. Burns opens in Sweden on our Studio stage, directed by Nora Nilsson.
