Upprorets poet is a newly written drama about the Iranian poet Forough Farrokhzad. A collaboration between the Gothenburg City Theatre, Riksteatern and RATS Theater.
Forough Farrokhzad lived courageously and died young. With her sensual, scenic and freedom craving poems she is an icon for millions of people. A symbol for women’s independence. Upprorets poet is a loving story about the Iranian poet and film maker’s life, and her poetry.
Director is Rebecca Örtman. She has written the play together with Jila Mossaed, an internationally acclaimed writer and poet. Jila Mossaed was brought up in Iran and published several works in Persian before leaving for Sweden in 1986. She has, since her debut in Swedish in 1997, been awarded several times for her poetry in Sweden. Jila Mossaed is as of October 2018 an elected member of the Swedish Academy. The music is composed by Kristina Issa, who also acts in the play.
The play, which is a collaboration between Gothenburg City Theatre, Riksteatern and RATS Teater is performed in Swedish with bits in Persian. It opens at the Gothenburg City Theatre on November 23 and starts touring at RATS Teater in Husby on January 26.
