European performing arts on a new digital platform

In autumn 2022, a completely new digital platform for European theater was launched. The platform is part of the collaborative project Prospero – Extended Theatre, in which Göteborgs Stadsteater, together with other European theatres, participates.

At www.prospero-theatre.tv, audiences can now watch performances, talks and behind-the-scenes interviews completely free. Several of the performances are subtitled in Swedish. More material is added continuously.

Here you can find, among others, a filmed version of The Silence, which premiered at Göteborgs Stadsteater in November 2021 and which, as part of the project, plays in Liège and Madrid during April 2023. Backa Teater's Utopia 2012 is also available on the site.

– With the new platform, our European collaboration has taken a new and interesting step, which provides good opportunities to take part in the digital development even though theater is primarily about the experience in the room, says Björn Sandmark, CEO of Göteborgs Stadsteater.

Prospero – Extended Theater started in 2020 and is co-financed by the EU program Creative Europe. The project stands on three legs: production and filming of nine productions (each with subtitles in seven languages), development of the streaming platform and audience development.

The theaters included, apart from the Göteborgs Stadsteater, are:
Théâtre de Liège (Belgium)
Emilia Romagna Teatro Fondazione (Modena, Italy)
São Luiz Teatro Municipal (Lisbon, Portugal)
Hrvatsko narodno kazalište u Zagrebu (Zagreb, Croatia)
Teatros del Canal – Comunidad de Madrid (Spain)
Schaubühne Berlin (Germany)
Teatr Powszechny (Warsaw, Poland)
Odéon-Théâtre de l’Europe (Paris, France)

Partner in the project is also ARTE, a digital platform for European culture.
