One is the winner, everyone loses
Aylin, Anna Å and Christina Ottenäs is sitting in the side room of the chapel, waiting to find out who is to become the Lucia of Trollhättan. Aylin would view it with honour, really. Anna Å thinks the Lucia is a beautiful tradition about warmth, peace and love. Christina Ottenäs loves to sing. Also, her mother expects her to become Lucia just like her mother, her grandmother, her great grandmother, her great, great grandmother and her great, great, great grandmother before her.
Johanna Svalbacke's The Lucia Candidates is a tearing, emotional and increadibly funny text. It tells, effortlessly and relatable, about three young girls standing on the edge of adulthood. Marcus Carlsson is a film- and theatre director and he has formerly directed, among other plays, Johanna Svalbacke's Shirins vargar at the Gothenburg City Theatre. The Lucia Candidates is his first play at Backa Teater.
