Mira går genom rummen

On belonging, against all Odds

What is a family? Is it something we are born into, something we choose, or something we happen to stumble upon along the way?

Mira is seven years old. She lives with her mother, her mother’s new husband, and her annoying stepbrother Hans—until the adults break up. “As far as I understand, we’re not siblings anymore,” Hans says. But who gets to decide that, really? You don’t just stop being siblings, do you?

Through Mira’s sharp and perceptive gaze, we move from room to room, from the small observations of everyday life to life’s bigger questions. We meet the father who hides under a table, the school nurse Ingrid Hedlén who wonders whether you can be a family all by yourself, and Mira’s friend Olof, who has four parents. And everywhere: children who see things clearly, while the adults grope in the dark.

Mira Goes Through the Rooms, by Martina Montelius, is a witty and tender story about finding your place, even when the map is redrawn. A performance that gently loosens the idea of the nuclear family, warms your heart, and dares to be just as fragile as life itself.
