Unrecognized (in English)

What happens to a human being when their home, their history, or even their existence is no longer recognized?

Performed in English.

Unrecognized brings together six actors from Ukraine, Georgia, North Macedonia, Finland and Sweden. At the centre of the performance is the myth of Iphigenia in Tauris, an ancient land that the Greeks described as distant and hostile, at the edge of “their world”. Today, we know it as Crimea.

The performance moves between ancient stories and the experiences of war, displacement and disputed borders today. Documentary material, personal stories, fiction and humour come together on stage. Who has the power to call someone a stranger? To draw a border? To decide who belongs and who does not?

The play is written by Davit Gabunia (Georgia) and Jeton Neziraj (Kosovo). They look at Europe from places that are too often seen as its margins. Here, war, occupation and displacement are not distant history. They are part of everyday reality. And the questions of who belongs, who is sacrificed, and who gets to decide are still unresolved.
